About Jeff
Jeff Walker dedicated 46 years to American Electric Power (AEP), contributing substantially across various capacities. His last role before retirement in September 2024 was as Project Manager Principal within the Utilities Tech Solutions group at AEP Texas. His career highlights include roles in project management, engineering, and operations.
In 2020, Jeff earned a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, enhancing his ability to manage complex projects. In 2023, he led ten 10MVA substation-level Distributed Energy Resource (DER) battery projects to completion, effectively handling projects that were significantly behind schedule when assigned to meet all in-service dates. He also managed a comprehensive pole inspection and replacement effort, covering approximately 1.1 million poles.
Jeff held the role of Distribution Project Manager for the Distribution Automation Circuit Reconfiguration Program and oversaw the deployment of the Sensewaves Adeptix.Grid software project at AEP Texas, which won the SEPA 2024 Emerging Technology Power Player of the Year Award.
Jeff represented AEP Texas in crafting a comprehensive emergency response plan for AEP—a three-year project that solidified his reputation as a proactive leader acquiring numerous FEMA Certifications along the way. He served on the AEP Central Standards Committee and led the AEP Texas Standards Committee. Additionally, he contributed significantly to the AEP corporate system hardening and resiliency initiative.
Previously, Jeff served as the Distribution Liaison for AEP Texas's Advanced Meter Infrastructure Deployment, which included over one million meters, and the mesh network consisting of over ten thousand routers. He also served as AEP's Best Practices Coordinator in Texas, providing support and training in various software tools.
He has frequently presented at utility conferences on topics such as electric distribution line design and electronic data collection with GPS technologies. His recent 2023 and 2024 presentations at SWEDE and DistribuTECH highlighted the AEP Sensewaves AI software project.
An expert in technology, Jeff is skilled in project scheduling, process flow documentation, database programming, and spreadsheets.
Outside his professional activities, Jeff has been actively involved in his community, holding positions such as President of the Uvalde Area Tennis Association, Secretary of the Uvalde Country Club, Treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of Uvalde and Director of the Uvalde Downtown Business Association.
Jeff's educational background includes graduation from Uvalde High School and attendance at Southwest Texas Junior College. Together with his wife Cheryl, Jeff has lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, for the past 17 years. They have two children and four grandchildren.
